From Homeless to Hearth: Lisa’s Journey to Stability and Purpose

When Lisa first connected with Hearth in late 2023, she didn’t know it would be the start of a life-changing relationship.
Lisa had been experiencing homelessness, navigating an uncertain and exhausting housing journey. But from the moment she met her case manager, Sophia, things felt different. “She made me feel very comfortable from our very first appointment,” Lisa recalls. “Even when I couldn’t make it to a meeting, she would come to me with an envelope full of new housing applications.”
Sophia’s persistence and support helped Lisa stay hopeful, but it was a simple invitation that changed everything. She encouraged Lisa to attend a Hearth luncheon at Franklin Park Golf Club. Lisa almost didn’t go—but something told her this might be the opportunity she had been praying for.

That day, Lisa was welcomed into the Hearth community. She saw older adults—people just like her—enjoying themselves, socializing, and thriving. Then, she met Hearth’s President & CEO, Rhonda Pieroni. “I heard the passion, determination, and sincerity in her voice,” Lisa says. “She truly cared.”
What started as a conversation over lunch turned into something even more powerful: a second chance.
Lisa asked about volunteering and was soon hosting bingo nights for residents. Within weeks, she was offered a position at Hearth’s Ruth Cowin House—an opportunity that not only provided meaningful work but also a place to call home. “I looked up at Nimo, Hearth’s Director of Supportive Housing, with tears in my eyes. She told me, ‘Rhonda wouldn’t stop until she could help you.’”

Lisa’s story is more than a personal success—it’s a testament to Hearth’s mission. We don’t just help older adults find housing. We help them find community, stability, and purpose.
Now, when Lisa watches her grandbaby play in her new apartment, she knows—she’s home. And her story isn’t finished yet.
